‘Clearing, Cardrona Forest’, oil on board, 21 x 14.75cm

Cardona Forest has always been a favourite place for my family to walk in and explore. The ongoing forestry work means that it is always changing, fast growing trees obscure familiar viewpoints and tree clearance creates new ones. This view, looking north over The Tweed Valley, caught my attention during a warm October afternoon. The low sun flitted through wind-blown clouds to pick out strong colours and send other areas into rich deep shadows. The familiar pinks of the Scots Pines shone out against the dominant greens of the landscape.
